Is web 3 overhyped?

What is web 3? Is web 3 overhyped? Is web 3 only an imaginary concept? Here’s all about web 3 that you should know.

To get the FULL picture of what Web 3.0 is, we need to understand what Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 means.

So let’s start from there

1) WEB 1.0

This was the earliest version of the internet. This version was just like a collection of book pages, this means that if you load a webpage, it shows some texts and basic images and that’s all.

You couldn’t interact with the page, but how?

Well In the web1.0 version of the internet, users could only “consume information” there was no interaction like being able to “log-in your details”, “Post a pic, status”, “like, comment, interact with posts” etc

It was a “READ ONLY VERSION”

B) WEB 2.0

This was the second and is the current version of the internet. This version introduced “interactivity between the internet and users”.

Thus, users can get information from the web and the internet can also get information from us. You see, when we watch YouTube videos, search on Google, Facebook, etc

These companies actually collect information about us and what we like. They use this information to produce content that would make us continue using their platform.

There is a problem with this…Why is Web 2.0 Risky?

To illustrate; a man who has a girlfriend posts her picture on Facebook or tags her handle. The site has collected its data. One day, the lady goes to google and searches for “signs of pregnancy” The algorithm interprets that she’s likely pregnant. Because these companies sell data to advertisers, the boyfriend starts seeing ads on his phone about family planning, how to raise a family, etc

Well, the internet knew before him that he was about to become a father!! That’s funny but Risky, right?

Now, what’s Web 3.0?

C) WEB 3.0

This is the next evolution of the internet that will likely use blockchain technology and will be decentralized!!

In Web 2.0, a picture that is on the internet is forever on the internet, even if you delete it.

So the web has control of your DATA. However,

In WEB 3.0, USERS WILL HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THEIR DATA. This means you’ll have the power to completely take down your content from the internet in this case… Also, in Web 3.0 it is assumed that every company will have a DAO(Decentralized Autonomous Organization)…

There will be no CEOs, person or central body in charge of internet DATA.

Also, every user of the internet will be involved in making decisions about any platform based on their voting power. There will be no censorship of content by any central body(e.g censorship in fb)
